Some reflection and a seedling of a new project...

Read it now to be kept in the loop of all things Pilates Corner.

Happy Tuesday,

At the weekend I turned 46, and whenever I have a birthday I like to reflect on what I’ve done over the past year.

This year has been a busy one - I became a tutor and assessor with Future Fit Training in February, helping to train the next generation of pilates instructors. I have also done a mammoth amount of travelling to and from Birmingham to work on the business side of what we do at The Pilates Corner, oh, and I had a little health blip to deal with along the way!

My 46th year already promises to be even bigger.

We’ve finally had an offer on our house yesterday (eek), so by my next birthday we should be in a new house.

I also have plans to launch The Hertfordshire School of Pilates - our very own teacher training school (and the very reason I started working for Future Fit) in the Spring of 2026.

I’m telling you this so I can be held accountable for it; the domain is bought, the accreditation process is in it’s early stages, and I have spent the last 5+ years nurturing this project in my head. Now it’s time to take action.

My first diagnosis in 2010 gave me the courage to train as a pilates instructor, so I’m using this year’s curveball as the catalyst for the next chapter of what I want to achieve in my time on this planet!

Watch this space for updates on it’s progress!

What Three Words…? - Update

Thank you for everyone that responded to this request, I had an overwhelming number of 37 different words!!

Friendly (8) was the runaway winner (and that honestly made me very happy). Fun (5) and Strength (4) were next highest, which feels spot on for the mix of joy and challenge in our classes. We also saw plenty of love for Caring (3), Challenging (3), Professional (3) and Community (3). And rounding things off were Flexible (3), Supportive (2), Core (2), Inclusive (2), Balance (2) and Fabulous (2) - there were many other really lovely words that received 1 vote each, but all the little things that make our studio feel warm, welcoming and unmistakably “us”.

So even though this exercise didn’t help me shortlist 3 winners, it did make me smile!

Upon reflection, and a suggestion from one of our members (thanks Duncan!), we realised that the words you use to describe our studio are not necessarily the reasons you joined us, these are the things you love now you’re with us.

Instead we need 3 words that people that weren’t already members would be looking to describe somewhere they’d like to be a part of.

So as a group, on Wednesday morning we came up with these three - We liked that they all had multiple meanings -

Accessible
Our Pilates classes are accessible for everybody, and at The Pilates Corner we make it easy for everyone to feel comfortable

Flexible
Our timetable and membership options are flexible, and you get more flexible by coming to our classes!

Wellbeing
Pilates supports your overall wellbeing, and The Pilates Corner adds to that with a calm, caring space to look after yourself

My car has been dropped off this morning to get wrapped, so next time you see it you can see the final design - I hope you like it!

Member Trip to The Devil Wears Prada

Last Friday, 22 of us went into London’s West End to see The Devil Wears Prada, starring Vanessa Williams.

It was fully of energy and laughs and a brilliant night out with fabulous seats as always (thanks Dianne).

This show rounds off our Member trips for 2025 - we already have the Palladium Pantomime in January and Kinky Boots in May next year booked in.

If you love theatre, please have a think about what shows you might like us to add to the agenda for next year.
